birdbath vintage
Chantel Bryant works with vintage fabrics and trims that she finds during her travels.  Searching flea markets and thrift stores she hand picks materials that catch her eye.  Color, pattern, and texture determine what is taken home and also later determines their use in design.  As an artist she is interestd in the process of gathering and combining materials, the process of sewing, the final product, and how the item meshes into our lives.  She sees that her vintage creations are not only material things, but have a daily use filled with past memories and get to continue their life with us in their new form creating new memories.  The concpt of using as many beautiful vintage items as possible is the foundation and drive in her work. The vintage upholstery fabrics she uses are relatively new; if you don?t count that they have been sitting on the roll for over thirty years!  Since the fabric has never been used it is in amazing condition and very durable since it is upholstery fabricand meant for heavy wear.  Vintage scarves and buttons are chosen to create the final product. After working in the apparel industry for four and a half years as a Product Developer, Chantel has started Birthbath Vintage and is designing and sewing out of her apartment in Long Beach.  She is currently a senior at California State University Long Beach finishing her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fiber:  3-D Media.  She currently teaches fashion and sewing at Inspyr Arts, a fine art studio for kids and adults.
